Internet Banking

MyBanco's internet banking was built to scale well on heavy loads. Here is some maths to prove the cost of the entire solution.

One brand new $700 machine can handle up to 130 demanding page requests a second.

130

Internal studies have shown that an experienced, knowledgeable internet banker will make one page click (or one operation) every 5 seconds.

(5 ☓ 130) = 650 users

That's 650 customers looked after for only $700!

And it was done in five seconds!
(or 6,200 customers looked after in a day - for only $700!)

Serving Maths (part two)

To serve 130 customers a second would require 7kb of bandwidth for each customer, assuming they all are visiting without any cache.

 (130 customers ☓ 7kb) = 910 Kb/s
 (910 Kb/s ☓ 5 ☓ 1.3) = 5915 Kb/s

The Savings

Imagine if you had to look after those customers at the front-office!

The maths

Studies have shown that ist takes an average of 10 minutes' to attend to a customer's core banking needs. This means it would take 6500 minutes, or 109 hours (or 16 days if the bank works 9-5 hours).

(10 ☓ 650) = 6,500 minutes
(6500 ☓ 60)~ 109 hours

If you consider that a bank clerk would cost around $18/hr, you would pay around $1,962 in paycheques alone

Summary

With internet banking, it costs $700 to serve 650 customers. With old front-desk banking, it costs more then $1,962. Internet Banking Wins! (and that is *including* the computer!)
With internet banking, it takes 5 seconds to serve 650 customers. With old front-desk banking, it takes at least 109 hours! Internet Banking Wins!
